Mexico climate - Perfect beach weather

Mexico climate

In a nutshell: the Mexican climate means you won't need to pack a suitcase full of woolly jumpers! The climate in Mexico is good pretty much all year round and the temperatures doesn't vary too much.

The Mexico climate around the Yucatan peninsula has an average daily temperature of around 26-30 degrees. In the evenings it cools down to a milder 18 degrees, though from May to September temperatures remain generally higher. At this time of year, choose from a Yucatan self drive tour or go driving Chitchen Itza. There's an occasional tropical shower but they're usually short and shouldn't hamper your trip much.

Mexico is a big country and the climate varies in the different regions: in the higher inland regions on our Campeche to San Cristobal tour it can get quite chilly, particularly in the evenings. From mid August - September it's the hurricane season in the Caribbean, see below.

Mexico Climate - The coast

In the winter months (November - April) the temperature in the Yucatan is comfortably warm and the humidity is low. The summer months (May - August) are hot and humid. Showers can be fierce but are usually short. On the whole, it's a good time of year for one of our Mexico itineraries

In September and October, the Mexico climate is most unreliable due to the hurricanes that form off the Caribbean coast in the gulf of Mexico. Further inland the hurricanes lose their strength, but even if you're a hundred miles away it can still cause some strong winds and a lot of rain, which can really hamper your trip if you're on the coast in Yucatan or Belize.

Mexico Climate - Inland and Guatemala

The climate of inland Mexico and Guatemala is determined, not only by the time of year that you travel, but also by the altitude. It's similar to the coastal climate; drier in the winter, humid in the summer and the lower the altitude the hotter it gets. Take a look at our Mayan route tours to decide where you would like to go.

Up to 700m altitude (e.g. Chichen Itza and Palenque) it's always hot, around 28 degrees in winter (around Christmas) and 35 degrees in summer
700m-1800m (e.g. Oaxaca) it's a lot milder like spring months in the UK.
Above 1800m (e.g. San Cristobal de las Casas, Puebla and Mexico City) it can get quite chilly and you'll need a warm sweater in the evenings.
