Mexico car hire - Fill her up!

Mexico car hire

As well as the self drive tours in Southern Mexico, you can also arrange your car hire in Mexico through us. A self-drive trip through Mexico by rental car, particularly in the Yucatan is a comfortable and safe option; the roads are well-maintained, and there are plenty of petrol stations along the way, road signs are clear and with our English route description you'll be able to find your way with no problem at all.

Many travel organisations plan a rather tight schedule of 1-2 weeks for a self-drive trip around the Yucatan, but we recommend planning a bit more time. The driving distances in Mexico are a lot bigger than you may think, and you want to be able to stop off on the way instead of being stuck in the car all day. After all, you're on holiday!

On average daily driving distances in Mexico are around 6 hours. We've indicated the estimated driving distance with every module and also the self-drive itineraries so you'll know how much time you'll need to get from one place to another.

Mexico car hire - VW Beetles

If you think of cars and Mexico, many people think VW Beetles. The photo may look romantic, but comfortable driving it's not! Distances on your self-drive trip round the Yucatan can be pretty long and the Beetle has no air-conditioning (except the window), little room, poor suspension and it's pretty noisy.

For us, the Beetle didn't pass the test for a comfortable self-drive trip around Mexico. The luggage compartment (under the bonnet!) is very small and that's definitely a handicap because you don't want to have to store all your bags on the back seat in plain sight.

This is why we recommend booking at least a category A car, or preferably a category C car for your car hire Mexico.
